They find that they have something in common in their research. From their knowledge it is well-known that there are other researchers in these families and places. Here seems common exchange be worth-while. That was the starting point for this project to give a much larger group of researchers on-line and at no costs the access to historical or genealogical interesting sources of the 16th and 17th Century in Saxony. Thus old documents and sources become protected. A further access is possible with some conditions. Soon a small project team was put together. Eva Maria Juelich in Chemnitz, Dagmar Linsel in Dieblich, Angie Tailby in Neuseeland, Detlef R. Papsdorf in Hungen, Christian Winkler in Duesseldorf und Rene’ Graenz in Dresden took on the task themselves to present the ‚old sources’ to the public. More support was found from the team “Treffpunkt Hilfsbereitschaft” in Dresden. Also the Saxonian public records office in Dresden, Chemnitz and Leipzig assured their support to this project. In order to manage the growing tasks, it is however necessary to strengthen the project team constantly. If you would like to help as a volunteer please contact the team. After the initial idea a structure had to be provided and programs had to be tested and selected. Basic legal conditions were to be clarified. An agreement with Public Records Offices and project teams was necessary. So, now after 3 months of developing time this data base can be made available to the public. In principal we use only free programs ( Open Source). These were tested and fine tuned to fit the project. A short insight to how it works: Original sources (tax lists, court books) are transcribed and as a document linked and compiled, or they might already exist as an index card. After setup into a digital version as Word or Excel or Gedcom or HtML document the data are being linked. Then a plausibility check of the linked data takes place to exclude errors as far as possible. Now the data are being processed and once this is successfully completed the presentation in the data base follows. In order to facilitate this collection of work, a record form was created. You can download this here. In order to combat today’s requirements and conditions in the World Wide Web (keyword Spam), the sources are available only after previous registration in the data base. If a researcher requires a Gedcom file then it is to be requested separately from the project team. Further references can be found in the data base. With this data base the team hopes to make a small contribution to simplify the research work in the family and local history and geography in Saxonia. Please consider that all work is on a voluntary basis, which means that the researchers give up their own spare time to accomplish the task apart from their own research activities. References and ideas which will lead to further improvement and increase our offer of information will be gladly accepted. Researchers who want to make their information available on this publication should contact the team. Data are generally made available free of any charge. A big thank you to all people who contributed to the success of this website with data, experiences and their time. In the name of the project team René Gränz |
