These are the yearly accounts from the Geithain council account book for 1549 up to February 1550.

The list contains the persons of Geithain eligible for tax with the amount of taxes payable in 1549. There were 202 taxable persons in 202 documents.
Remarks by the author on some particular points of interest:
Parishioners in the inner city belong to the parish Saint Nikolai (church records are held there). Parishioners who live on and around the Neumarkt belong to the parish Saint Marien (church records are held there).
The spelling is used as found in the tax records. As there were no rules for spelling at that time the town scribe sometimes has spelt the name different ways even within one family. All surnames start with a capital letter. Variants of surnames and of given names are mentioned. The paper has dark stains because of serif font.
The use of double "uu" for "w" disappears in the following decades but one "u" is still common.
Interesting to see the change in the spelling of a single surname in 1549, 1558, and 1574. Some surnames are not quite legible due to flaws in the sheets or poor writing of the town scribe.
