Shown is the name index of marriages extracted from the church records Eibenstock 16th and 17th century. The list is not intended to be exhaustive.

These extracts were compiled by the genealogist Ernst Költzsch in Wilkau-Haßlau in April 1966. Publishing was permitted courtesy of his son, Prof. Dr. Költzsch. The transcript can be found in the library Ratsschulbibliothek Zwickau, a copy in the archive of the AMF e.V. The original is held in the rectory of Eibenstock.

This list contains the persons who married in the relevant period. Often the fathers of the brides are mentioned so relationships can easily be traced. There are 1533 persons included in 2414 regesta.

The author points out the following:

Research in dear old mountain town Eibenstock is always interesting and appealing. This is especially true for the 16th and first half of the 17th century as in that time mining was the main factor shaping history of the town and its population while relationships with families in other mining towns were established.

We should also consider that, according to the heritage records of the Schwarzenberg district in the 16th century, Eibenstock had treble the nunber of tax payers of Aue and still double the number of Schwarzenberg.

The following compilation of Eibenstock marriages contains:

1. all marriages between 1562 - 1601, and
2. marriages in the 17th century,

as far as I have encountered them in my research. The limit is drawn around 1700 although, for reasons of my own research some marriage records are included from a later time or neighboring places.

The list comprises of abt. 860 marriages and provides genealogical data for over 2,000 persons. As the names of wives and in-laws are also alphabetically included familiar connections can easily be found. Consider that because of the arbitrary spelling of surnames at the time a certain name can also appear in different places of the list, like DAM/THAM, or DALWITZER/THALBITZER, or TRÖGER/TREGER, RÖHLING/RÖHLIG, REDLICH/RÖDLIG to mention but a few examples.

The figures in the index of place names refer to the page numbers of the list. Always the whole page should be looked at, though, as the town in question often appears multiple times on the same page. Sosa and Blauenthal belonged to the Eibenstock parish almost all the time of this period, there might be marriages concerning inhabitants of the two villages where the place name is not particularly mentioned.

The church records of Eibenstock began with the christenings and death entries 1589 but pastor Mann had found a list of marriages from 1562 which
he transcribed into the church record book. Those are very short entries.

Please do not refer to me or to this list when enquiring at the rectory in Eibenstock as because of that I encountered immense difficulties in my research in other rectories.
